Origin

History: The name of Qin Valley, in present-day Gansu province. Gao Yao, a great-grandson of the legendary emperor Zhuan Xu, was a famous minister under the model emperors Yao and Shun in the 23rd century bc; he is said to have been the first to introduce laws for the repression of crime. 1300 years later a descendant of his was rewarded for his talents in animal husbandry by being granted the lordship of Qin Valley as a vassal state.

History: This name was derived from a man known as Qin Fu (禽父). He was the founder of the State of Lu during the early Zhou dynasty. Born into the royal Ji family (姬), he was the eldest son of the Duke of Zhou. Instead of inheriting his father's estate in Zhou, he was granted the newly established State of Lu centered at Qufu. He is thought to have ruled Lu from around 1042 to 997 BC. His posthumous name was the Great Duke (太公, Tàigōng)
